I did say "replacements" *g*.
Since we usually don't have massive cast changes at once, the couple of new people watch the show, rehearse with the understudies and the resident director, and then go on. I've been told that even though two weeks seems short, by the end of it you're itching to just get on stage already.
I'm sure a four week block of rehearsals is necessary when there is a complete cast change involving most of the ensemble as well as the leads. I wouldn't know how else to rehearse an entirely (or almost entirely) new ensemble.
So yes, four weeks seems excessive, but for an entire cast, I'm sure it's about right. That's usually what new productions get in the States, anyway (four to six weeks), and if you are changing over that many at once, it would be difficult to give everyone the necessary attention in only two weeks. |

Two weeks of rehearsals? Blimey! That would be taken up with the producer's intro . . .

Stop it! I just mean that in the US, the system a) doesn't change over very many people at once so b) replacements get two weeks of rehearsal.
And, by god, if we can do it in two weeks, you lazy brit should get off your bloomin' arses . . . *g*

A month? It would be four days if I had my way! Grrrrr . . . Of course, in the old days of you had to learn your script by day nad perform it by night, and then take the set down and packed before putting up a new set the next morning. Then you picked up a different script and performed it in the evening. And if you were an understudy, then God help you. Though we didn't really have understudies back then, 'cos you knew the script off by heart anyway. But there was a good team spirit. Oh yes. Back in the old days.
When, thankfully, I wasn't alive.

Ok, dumb American here is still surprised every time something like this comes up.
Is John Stacey leaving or staying, does anybody know? I'll miss him if he goes.

Hi Azile,
Glad you approve. He's a great actor, as I am sure I mentioned on a couple of posts earlier. ;-)
I have admired Alex's ability for a while, and I really hope that he makes the part his own.

| It was the first day of rehearsals for the new cast today although apparently they hav'nt quite finished casting the ensemble. Alex Jennings... yum,yum,yum.....can't wait....
