Nick Davies
Musical
Director
Nick Davies trained in classical music at the
Royal College of Music. His theatre experience
began in 1986 as Assistant MD for a national tour
of The Sound of Music. Since then he has
conducted many shows including the 1988 West End
production of South Pacific. In 1989 he was
appointed Musical Director of the Foundacion
Comedia Musical, the leading musical theatre
company in San Juan, Puerto Rico, where shows
include Damn Yankees, South Pacific and
Guys and Dolls.
Subsequent credits include The Sound of
Music and Annie Get Your Gun on tour and
in the West End, and Rodgers and Hammerstein's
Cinderella for New York City Opera, also in
Japan. In 1993 he conducted the final concert of
the Macau International Music Festival with the
orchestra of the Central Opera Company of Beijing
and the San Carlos Choir from Lisbon.
He
has conducted many other orchestras including the
Royal Philharmonic, with whom he has recorded
classic rock albums, a Disney collection, Beatles
hits, many film scores, an album of nursery rhymes,
and six CDs for 'The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra
plays the music of..." Oasis, George Michael,
Madonna, REM, U2 and Meatloaf. He has conducted the
London Sinfonia, the Wren Orchestra of London, the
Brandenburg Symphony Orchestra, the Royal
Philharmonic Concert Orchestra, the Halle Orchestra
and BBC Concert Orchestra.
In
1993 he became Musical Director of Les
Misérables in the West End, also working as
Musical Supervisor for new productions in Duisburg,
Germany, Helsinki, Finland and Antwerp, Belgium. He
conducted the original German cast album and also
produced the Belgiar CD recording, which received a
gold disc. He has been Music Director for Les
Misérables in Concert, Martin
Guerre at the Prince Edward Theatre,
Oklahoma! at the Lyceum (NT transfer) and
recently for The Phantom of the Opera at Her
Majesty's.
He
has also conducted UK and European tours with Chris
de Burgh.
