Anthony Ward
Designer
At
the National Anthony Ward has designed productions
of The Invention of Love, Sweet Bird of Youth,
Napoli Milionaria, The Way of the World, Remember
This, La Grande Magia, John Gabriel Borkman,
Othello and Oklahoma!.
Also in London he designed The Novice, A
Hard Heart and Donna Rosita The Spinster
for the Almeida, The Rehearsal at the
Almeida and Garrick Theatres, Assassins,
Nine and To the Green Fields Beyond at
the Donmar Warehouse, and Oliver! at the
London Palladium.
For the RSC his work includes A Midsummer
Night's Dream (also US tour and on Broadway -
Tony nomination for Best Set Design), King Lear,
The Tempest, Artists and Admirers, Cymbeline, The
Winter's Tale, Twelfth Night, The Alchemist, The
Virtuoso and Troilus and Cressida. In
Opera: The Makropulos Case for the
Metropolitan Opera, New York, Tosca for De
Vlaamse Opera, Antwerp, Manon Lescaut, for
Opera de Paris, Bastille and De Vlaamse Opera,
La Boheme, Yolande and The Nutcracker,
L'Etoile and Gloriana for Opera North (the
latter also presented at The Royal Opera
House).
Ballet: The Nutcracker for Adventures in
Motion Pictures at Sadler's Wells, and
Masquerade, Les Rendezvous and Dance
Variations for the Royal Ballet.
Film: the RSC's production of A Midsummer
Night's Dream.
He
has won Olivier Awards for Best Costume Design
1996, for A Midsummer Night's Dream, The Way of
the World and Le Grande Magia, and Best
Set Design for Oklahoma!
