I saw My Fair Lady on the 12th December 2001. I was treated to the most fantastic show. Joanna Riding was Perfect for the part. I could not fault her. Her cockney accent was wonderful. She is truly a star of the stage. When I saw her in the white dress. Wow. She was stunning.

I think it very wrong for you to ask for our thoughts on Joanna Ridings and then when they are given you poo-poo them. I also saw the 'clip' which you mention and semi-agree with you. Although I think Joanna needs time to get into playing her role of Eliza, when she does she will easily out do Martine, because I expect she will actually go to work!

I AGREE MARTINE Mc (i look like someone has hit me with a frying pan) utcheon is terrible! She hasn't got the right kind of voice to play Eliza. Don't get me wrong, she can sing...................just not very well!!

I'm not a Martine fan I confess it but I think that to say that she can't sing very well is clearly a comment from the musically unable. She can sing. Buy the soundtrack! She reaches unbelievable soprano heights perfectly however her performance as a whole was not outstanding and did not leave me feeling I had witnessed anything wonderful. Joanna Riding is superb though and is clearly more cut out for such a part due to her prior training and experience. Please keep such ignorant, thoughtless remarks where they belong...within the 'Brain of Grant'

First of all, it is very simple to re-login on this board. Second, what does "cockney" have to do with "The Rain in Spain"? That's the first song where it *doesn't* matter. Third, if Eliza did not have a beautiful voice under that ghastly accent, she never could have been viewed as princess -- this is direct from Shaw, so take it up with Georgie-boy if you have a problem with his writing. Fourth, I'd apply the same measure to Alex Jay as well. "Rain in Spain" doesn't match up because it isn't supposed to. Judge the plausibility of "cockney" by "Loverly", not by "Rain in Spain".

This place is getting stupid. Whenever makes a comment it is always thrown right back at-ya!! James Foster was giving his thoughts, it does not need to be replied to because that is what he thinls!!
